WHAT IS A GENERIC PERFUME?

Generic perfumes or perfumes of equivalence, are perfumes manufactured with their own unique formulation containing within their olfactory pyramid, a combination of natural or synthetic essences that give it an aroma very similar to that of other fragrances that are highly recognized by users.

Generic perfumes, although their aroma may seem very similar or almost identical to other perfumes, are not identical copies and there may be certain variations.

Generic perfumes have a unique and own perfume formulation, containing within its olfactory pyramid, a combination of natural or synthetic essences that give it an aroma very similar to that of a recognized fragrance.

Generic perfumes are usually manufactured in the following qualities:
- Eau de Cologne (EDC), volume of essence between 6% and 7%. Approximate fixation of the fragrance between 1 and 2 hours.
- Eau de Toilette (EDT), volume of essence between 8% and 15%. Fixation of the fragrance between 3 and 4 hours.
- Eau de Parfum (EDP), volume of essence between 16% and 18%. Fixation of the fragrance between 4 and 6 hours.

On rare occasions they are also made in higher grades:

IS ITS SALE LEGAL?

Yes, it is totally legal because it is impossible to patent the smell of a fragrance. That yes, the brands have their patents and rights over the image, names, brands and in no case is it legal for another manufacturer to take advantage in any way of said image, the use of the names, the brand itself or the association between products. In addition, the chemical composition of a perfume must be very different from another and although the objective is to create a very specific fragrance, in no case can a formula be copied.

ECONOMIC PRICE

Although there are also generic or equivalent perfumes of different qualities and prices, the first reason why they are usually much cheaper than a recognized perfume is the absence of marketing, advertising and other superfluous costs, such as packaging with finishes. luxurious, catalogs or free samples, in addition to the use in some cases of natural essences of very high economic cost.

The manufacture of a generic perfume is usually carried out in large laboratories with highly industrialized processes, using quality raw materials, but always seeking the compatibility of those that have a better price.

Some essences that are added to its composition, which are extremely expensive, are also often replaced by the manufacturers of these perfumes, with similar ones or a cheaper combination.

The greater the amount of a certain type of essence in a perfume, its price will increase considerably, so we should never compare a perfume without assessing its quality.

Finally, it should be noted that the commercial margins from the manufacturer, through the distributor and the seller, to the final customer, are much lower in generic perfumes.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

The first reason why our customers opt for a generic perfume, obviously, is usually its price, which is usually 70% cheaper than a recognized perfume, taking as a comparison reference the same level of quality essences and raw materials in His composition.

In some cases, and even though there are small variations in the final olfactory perception between a generic perfume and another perfume, the Client prefers the first because of its touch of distinction or because they tend to be fresher in their most basic quality levels.

As drawbacks, we must highlight the much more austere presentation and that in its composition, sometimes there is no choice but to use cheaper essences or a combination of them to replace the more expensive natural essences.

We like sincerity. If what you are looking for is a perfume whose aroma is 100% identical to the one you like, its composition is exactly the same, its presentation is luxurious and its price is very low, we recommend that you use your usual perfume. On the contrary, you are willing to sacrifice any of these nuances, generic perfumes can be a good option when your economy does not allow you to enjoy your favorite fragrance.
